The 1959-1960 stamp features a Labrador Retriever named King Buck carrying a drake mallard painted by Maynard Reece. King Buck was accomplished in field-trials and on the hunt. According to Winchester’s website, King Buck’s “owner John Olin, founder and president of Winchester’s parent company, or his trainer T.W. “Cotton” Pershall, who led the black Labrador retriever to an impressive 83 finished national field trials out of a possible 85. Before or since, no retriever has completed more than 62.”
